6/17: Methadone in the Fentanyl Era

Methadone: The Overlooked Solution in the Fentanyl Era

Wednesday, June 17, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET

This event examines the evolving role of methadone in treating opioid use disorder (OUD) in the fentanyl era, challenging perceptions that it is outdated or high risk and reframing it as a highly effective, underutilized intervention.

Through clinical evidence and a patient-centered lens, Dr. Gilbert Schmidt, a BrightView Medical Director, and Brianna Ramseur, a BrightView Lead Advanced Practice Provider, will highlight methadone’s pharmacologic advantages for individuals with high opioid tolerance.

Attendees will be able to:

• Explain the pharmacology of methadone and how it differs from buprenorphine, particularly in patients with fentanyl exposure.

• Understand which patient populations are most likely to benefit from methadone, including those with high opioid tolerance and repeated treatment instability.

• Recognize the impact of stigma (anticipated, enacted, and internalized) on treatment engagement and outcomes.

• Address common misconceptions about methadone safety, effectiveness, and patient functionality using evidence-based messaging.

Attending this FREE event is worth one NAADAC-approved continuing education (CE) hour. Please check with your state board to confirm CE eligibility.
